We're so excited to share amazing stories from our past au pairs who have successfully finished their program and have gone off to kickstart their professional careers, continue their studies, or travel extensively! Today we're sharing stories from four au pair alumni: Chatchaya, Barbara, Ula, and Lizabeth. Read on to see what (and where!) these au pair alumni are up to!
Au pair alumni Lizabeth continued her graduate studies back in her home country of South Africa after completing two years with the same family. She shares how being an au pair changed her life:
The experience of being au pair answered a lot of questions that I had been curious about before I started my au pair adventure. I made friends from across the world who I keep in contact with and hope to visit soon. By being an au pair, I got a chance to explore and was able to find things I'm passionate about.
Lizabeth is now in college to accomplish her dream of studying business administration.
Au pair alumni Ula says she learned more about herself than she knew was possible. After completing her program as an au pair from Poland, she is now an AuPairCare Area Director after moving back to the United States! Ula says that her time as an au pair taught her to become very independent and that the program exceeded all her expectations. We love having an au pair alumni as part of the AuPairCare team, as they know exactly what the au pair experience is like! Ula says:
I love to be once again submerged in this wonderful program that I am so passionate about.
Chatchaya, an au pair from Thailand, shared how the experience helped define the next steps in her life:
Having a full year experience as an au pair taught me to understand the real world through different human beings. This experience offered me a strong pathway to be able to accept every human being and be accepted from them as well. Currently, I am working as a Personal Assistant to the Principal at the International School in Thailand with nearly 40 nationalities of students. To me, the au pair program was a massive asset that helped me to have a strong profile which helps with a professional career pathway.
Chatchaya also shared advice for making the most of your year as an au pair: "If you remember everything you have been invested/prepared since the beginning, it will then help you to smile with anything that comes to you again. Trust me. There is a lot of experience for you to gain during your 1 or 2 years as an au pair but there will be even more benefits that offer you on the way right after you complete the program as well."
Barbara, an au pair alumni from Brazil, is enjoying her life as an English teacher back in Brazil while also traveling throughout England. Barbara shared that why teaching English felt like a great next step for her:
In my country (Brazil), since our primary language is Portuguese and as English is a very important language, we have many schools that focus only on teaching English. I chose to teach children because that is my passion and I discovered that during my au pair experience!
Barbara also said: "My advice to the au pairs is to stay focused and believe in your path, it might seem difficult at first, but if you don't quit and do your best, dreams will come true. And travel as much as you can, there is nothing better!"
