When our son, Liam, was younger, he was often asked "Wouldn't you like to have a baby brother or sister?" He always responded "No, I don't want a baby brother...but I would like an OLDER brother." We had to often gingerly explain how that really wasn't possible...or was it. The perfect answer for our busy single-child family came in the form of Stefan. We found Stefan through AuPairCare and he became that big brother, and so much more.

Stefan is a 5th grade math guru, a master four-square opponent, amazing handball player and a great cook. Above all, he has become a member of our family and we have been lucky to share our home the last 18 months. Stefan is a warm, funny, caring, and active addition to our family. And while we have introduced Stefan to real New York pizza, dim sum, and bagel sandwiches, he has introduced us to delicious spaetzle, Kinder-Riegel chocolates, and the awesome world of European handball.
Stefan became a crowd favorite among our son's friends and they would often look for Stefan when they came over to play or when at the playground. It was common to hear "can Stefan come too?" in making plans with his friends. Stefan even became an "unofficial coach" for a season of soccer, teaching the american kids what European soccer skills look like.
We thank our lucky stars that Stefan chose to match with our family, and that he extended for a second year with us. Our only regret is that Stefan isn't able to stay with us longer, but we know our family has formed a life-long relationship and are already talking about visiting him in his home country.
