AuPairCare Reveals the 2016 Ultimate Au Pair Winner, Brazilian Au Pair Elem

Host parents Amber and Nate Reynolds are like so many other busy working parents. With ever changing schedules, they really wanted a flexible in-home caregiver for their one year old baby girl. Enter Elem, who was studying law, but cared deeply for children and wanted to take some time to study English and learn American culture before starting an international law career. The match couldn't have been more perfect.  From the very first day Elem was kind, committed, and eager to share her culture with her host family. She went above and beyond the call of duty, and made herself essential to the family's daily life.  

Many things the Reynolds' daughter has learned were influenced by Elem, from learning to walk to speaking her first words. It's normal for her to scream with excitement when au pair Elem returns after being out of her sight for even a short time. Amber describes the relationship between her daughter and au pair as beautiful.

The annual Ultimate Au Pair contest is a special way for host families to communicate what the au pair program means to their lives. Host parents nominate their au pairs with an essay to and then the top ten entries are voted upon to determine the winner. This year, over 110 families entered and more than 1,200 votes were cast.  In some entries, host parents described their au pairs as the superglue that keeps the family together or their children said the au pair was the older sibling I always wanted. Not just live-in childcare, the au pair program has cultural exchange and the spirit of family at its core, and this annual contest brings that to the forefront.
