Spring was a season full of connection, community, andcultural exchange across the AuPairCare family. From scenic nature hikes toexciting sporting events and heartfelt volunteer efforts, au pairs across thecountry came together to share experiences that reflect the very best of theprogram—friendship, learning, and giving back.
To celebrate Earth Day and the arrival of spring, AreaDirector Kelly hosted a nature-filled Cultural Connection at Settler’s StatePark in Pittsburgh. Eleven au pairs joined Kelly and her family for a scenichike, park cleanup, and meaningful moments of cultural exchange.
Under clear blue skies—a welcome change from Pittsburgh’susual spring rain—the group explored the park trails, switching hiking partnersto spark new conversations and laughter. For many, it was their first timevisiting a U.S. state park, making the day even more special.
“Thank you for the lovely hiking trip, Kelly! I had a greattime! I’m looking forward to seeing you and friends next month!” said Yura fromSouth Korea.
“It was a great day to meet amazing au pairs!” added Nathalia from Colombia.
The hike served as a beautiful reminder that culturalexchange can flourish anywhere—especially in nature, surrounded by friends fromaround the world.
On a vibrant May evening in Seattle, 16 au pairs joinedtheir Area Director Vanessa for an unforgettable experience at a SeattleSounders FC match, thanks to a generous donation from the RAVE Foundation. Thegroup was treated to a suite at Lumen Field, complete with premium seats andsnacks, to watch the local MLS team clinch a thrilling win.
Before kickoff, au pairs participated in a Seattletradition—marching to the match with the Emerald City Supporters. Along theway, they chanted, cheered, and connected with local fans, blendinginternational spirit with hometown pride.
For many, soccer (or football, as they know it) is auniversal language—and experiencing it in an American setting offered a freshcultural twist. Between shared cheers and suite-side snacks, au pairs deepenedtheir connection to their new community while celebrating the sport that unitesthe world.
In June, New York au pairs gathered on Long Island to join alocal volunteer initiative known as the Peanut Butter and Jelly Gang. Theirmission: to make as many sandwiches as possible for neighbors experiencing foodinsecurity. Together with youth groups, families, and community members, aupairs rolled up their sleeves and got to work—producing an incredible 1,059sandwiches in one session!
“I loved the last Au Pair meeting that my Area Directororganized for us. We spent a lot of time at a church volunteering, makingsandwiches to help those in need,” said Natalia from Brazil.
Through this hands-on experience, au pairs learned how smallacts of kindness can make a big impact. It was a meaningful opportunity to giveback and engage with their host communities, reinforcing the values ofcompassion, service, and global understanding that define the au pair program.
Across the U.S., AuPairCare’s spring Cultural Connectionevents reminded us that cultural exchange happens in countless ways—throughnature, sports, and community service. Each gathering, whether a hike in thewoods or a day spent volunteering, brought au pairs and host communities closertogether, celebrating the spirit of connection that defines AuPairCare.
