Benefits of Being an Au Pair in America

Becoming an au pair in America is unlike any other experience you’ll have. It combines your love for kids with cultural exchange, travel, learning and friendship. As an AuPairCare au pair, you'll earn a stipend of approximately $10,000 USD with room and board provided, and you'll have the opportunity to travel across the United States and make new friends from around the globe. You’ll also help further your career by improving your English skills and spending time studying at an American University or College.

With AuPairCare, you’ll enjoy many benefits during your year abroad:

    • Earn a stipend during your year of about $10,000 USD

    • Free flight to and from the United States, including all connecting flights to your host family

    • Travel and accident insurance package for 12 months

    • A private bedroom in your family's home

    • J-1 Visa Sponsorship

    • 30 days to travel the country at the end of your program

    • 1 1/2 free days per week, plus 10 days of paid vacation during your program year

    • Up to $500 USD in tuition money to attend college classes (you must complete 6 credits or equivalent)

    • 24 hour emergency line and continuous support from your local AuPairCare Area Director

    • Opportunity to extend your program for another 6, 9 or 12 months

Travel the United States

Your American experience starts when you arrive at Au Pair Academy in the New York Metropolitan area, where you’ll be given the chance to visit New York City with other au pairs from all over the world.

After your year in the U.S., you will have the opportunity to end your adventure with up to 30 days of travelling. Many au pairs also go on vacations with their host families and spend weekends exploring their new surroundings with other au pairs during their program year.

Improve your English and Attend Classes with Americans

On top of the English skills you’ll gain on the program, au pairs also attend classes (6 semester hours or equivalent) at an American University or College. Your Area Director and host parents can assist you in enrolling and attending local classes - English as a Second Language, American History or Photography are just a sample of the many courses you can take while in the program! This is also a great opportunity to meet other students and young people in your new city.

Many former au pairs credit the program with helping them find a job and becoming who they are today. Read our Au Pair Alumni Network stories to learn how this program changed their lives.
