There's no better way to ring in the holiday season than with giving back. AuPairCare is so proud of the au pairs in our program and their commitment to giving back to their adopted community! See how au pairs across the country are bringing good tidings and joy.
San Diego, California
North San Diego au pairs found joy and excitement by giving back to children in need around the world! Au pairs from Germany, France, South Africa, Japan, Spain, and Colombia filled almost 25 gift boxes for children of various ages. With the help of donations from family and friends, the au pairs were able to purchase dozens of small gifts that could be perfectly placed into shoeboxes. Along with the gifts, the au pairs also included personal notes in each box and will track the boxes to see where in the world they land!
The boxes will be distributed at Christmas time to children around the world by an international charity, Samaritan's Purse. Samaritan's Purse responds to crises all over the world and specializes in meeting critical needs for victims of conflict, natural disasters, and famine. The shoe boxes are just one part of this effort that blesses children with joy, hope, and love. For many children, it is the first gift ever received! The treasures and personal notes inside communicate that someone cares for them.
In addition to creating the gift boxes, the au pairs celebrated an early Thanksgiving with a homecooked turkey dinner - complete with mashed potatoes, gravy, and homemade rolls. All very American! The au pairs added to the meal by bringing a dessert or side dish from their home country. It was a wonderful celebration of cultural exchange as well as giving back to our world community!
Au pairs volunteer at My Very Own Blanket, where they hand-made blankets that will be delivered to children in foster care. After an afternoon of cutting, creating, and sewing, AuPairCare au pairs created numerous warm and beautiful blankets.
Area Director Anna and her au pairs recently volunteered at the Texas Food Bank. They packed shopping bags with various Thanksgiving goods, including an apple pie, two cans of carrots, and stuffing. Their other task was to pack 3 large heads of cabbage into bags - which ended up weighing about 20 pounds! After so much heavy lifting, the AuPairCare team was happy to report that they helped provide 3,275 meals for the food bank! Great job Austin au pairs!
