Quality and Screening

Au Pair Care takes our commitment to selecting only the most qualified au pairs very seriously.  Over the years, we have developed a comprehensive screening process designed to assess an au pair’s childcare experience, personality, skills and motivation for wanting to be an au pair. The admissions process is lengthy and requires the au pair candidate to provide the following information:

  • Detailed childcare history, experience and skills
  • Personal information including lifestyle, interests, family and education
  • Information describing why they wish to become an au pair
  • Medical history and current health status
  • Driving experience
  • Photographs

In addition to information the au pair provides, Au Pair Care also requires:

  • Evidence the au pair has successfully passed a criminal background check
  • Two childcare references verified by an Au Pair Care representative
  • One personal reference verified by an Au Pair Care representative
  • Medical history verified by the au pair’s physician

Every au pair is individually interviewed in person and in English by an Au Pair Care representative and must also complete and pass a psychometric test, designed to assess an au pair’s suitability for the program.

Every effort is made to ensure that only the most qualified, mature and caring individuals are accepted into the program. In addition to our strict admissions criteria, all au pairs must meet the following requirements set forth by the U.S. Department of State which require that au pairs are:

  • Are between the ages of 18 and 26 years old
  • Have previous childcare experience and enjoy caring for children
  • Have a sincere interest in living with an American family
  • Are proficient in English
  • Are in good health
  • Have graduated from a secondary school or equivalent
  • Agree to follow all program regulations
