How to Apply

Families interested in hosting an au pair should follow two easy steps to apply:

Submit an Application

Families interested in becoming an AuPairCare family can use our online application form to submit an application. Once your application is received, the process typically takes 6 to 10 weeks to find a match and have the au pair arrive in your home.

Important Tips

When filling out the application you will be asked to write an essay about your family and to check off typical family activities and interests. The information you provide should be considered when you interview and select an au pair. The essay should be written as a letter to your future au pair describing your family, your family's personality, the area in which you live, the au pair's responsibilities, and why you have chosen to host an au pair. Your au pair will receive a copy of this letter once you have agreed to a match. When you begin the application process you can review a sample host family letter which you can use as a guide to compose your letter to your future AuPairCare au pair.

You will also need to sign the AuPairCare Host Family Agreement and submit the Payment Authorization Form. Both of these forms are located within the application itself (both online and print versions). The Host Family Agreement outlines the program in detail. Be sure to read this document thoroughly before signing. The Payment Authorization Form allows you to choose how you would like to pay for your au pair service. You can pay in full or utilize our extended payment plan option.

Provide Two References

You will also be asked to obtain two references. These should be from close friends, neighbors, or employers, but not family members. The forms can be submitted electronically on our web site or you can download and print the reference form. Reference forms can be submitted to our San Francisco office by fax, email or mail.

After You Apply

Once your application has been submitted, you will receive a confirmation email from AuPairCare stating that your application has been received and alerting you to whether the information is complete or if there is any information outstanding.

Once your application is complete, you will be contacted by your local Area Director to set up a time for the in-home interview. Your Area Director will come to your home to meet your family and further discuss your needs. Once the interview is complete, you will receive a copy of our Host Family Handbook and an email with your username and password, allowing you access to our online matching system, Family Room. You are then able to search through the system based on your criteria and choose au pairs to interview. If at any point during the matching process you wish to refine your search or require assistance to expedite the match process, our Matching Experts are on-hand to provide you with this personalized support.

Once you have selected a match with an au pair, you will receive confirmation via mail and email. Your au pair's travel itinerary will follow shortly thereafter.
