Hosting an Au Pair: Family Qualifications
Au Pair Care is designated by the U.S. Department of State to place au pairs. Prior to matching with your au pair, families wishing to host an au pair must meet the U.S. Department of State and Au Pair Care requirements.
To participate in the program, families must:
- Be committed to cultural exchange and be willing to welcome an au pair as a family member
- Be U.S. citizens or permanent legal residents
- Be fluent in English and speak English as the primary language in the home
- Provide the au pair with a private bedroom
- Submit a completed application and two references
- Have an in-home interview with an Au Pair Care representative
- Have adequate financial resources to undertake hosting obligations
- Be willing to comply with U.S. Department of State regulations
Au pairs can work up to 45 hours a week and 10 hours a day. You can arrange the au pair's responsibilities and schedule to suit your needs within these guidelines.
