Spotlight on Mexico

Bringing a Mexican au pair into your home is an amazing way to introduce your children to the lively and diverse culture of our neighboring country. The people of Mexico are well-known for their high reverence for family values, festivals abundant with music and dance, and mouthwatering cuisine that has made its way into the hearts (and stomachs) of most Americans.  Above all, Mexican au pairs bring their warmth and passion to their roles as caregivers, assuring that your family will have a wonderful childcare experience.

Family Values

Throughout Mexican culture and history, family is held in the highest esteem and familial loyalty is extremely valued. Deeply rooted in the Catholic tradition, values of love, honesty, loyalty and unity are widely believed to be essential to a family’s success and children are raised with the utmost respect for their parents.  In traditional Mexican culture, extended families are very important and as close as the typical nuclear family of America. These strong family values are evident in the close relationships our Mexican au pairs develop with their host families and host children.

Music and Dance

Music and dance play an integral role in Mexican culture. The distinct rhythms and musical sounds of the Mariachi band is one of the most popular and easily identified forms of Mexican music and lifestyle.  The role of dance is just as essential with the popular Jarabe Tapatio (Mexican Hat Dance) named the national dance of Mexico.  Mariachi band and the Jarabe Tapatio are still proudly and joyously performed at Mexican fiestas and events throughout the year.

Festivals

Festivals in Mexico are a huge part of the Mexican culture, reflecting its peoples love for celebrations and social gatherings.  The largest and most popular festival is that of Cinco de Mayo, the celebration of the country’s freedom and independence.  The celebration of Cinco de Mayo is so huge, in fact, that it is now just as celebrated and revered in America as it is in Mexico.

Cuisine

Mexican cuisine is known for its intense and varied flavors, colorful decoration, and variety of spices, many of which are native to the country.  We have Mexico to thank for chocolate, a favorite across the world, which originated in Mexico! The popularity of Mexican food has spilled across borders as Mexican cuisine is internationally recognized. Among its most popular dishes are tacos, quesadillas, enchiladas, tamales, and burritos.  Not only are these dishes extremely tasty, but they are also easy to cook, making for a great (and delicious) activity for your au pair and child to engage in together.
