Health Insurance

All au pairs are covered under a medical and accident insurance policy arranged by AuPairCare.  Upon arrival to the Au Pair Academy, au pairs receive a personalized insurance identification card attached to a claim form.  The insurance identification card provides basic instructions to follow when requiring emergency medical or dental treatment. It is the responsibility of the au pair to familiarize themselves with the policy coverage and exclusions.

Insurance Provider

All AuPairCare au pairs (excluding au pairs from the STS Organization- for further information see below) are insured through AVI-International/SelectCare Worldwide. The AVI-International policy number is 640.642. Specific information regarding the AVI insurance policy and coverage is outlined below.

  • Security Passport – Explanation of Benefits. This brochure provides a complete list of policy coverage and exclusions and detailed instructions on what to do in the event of a medical/dental/travel emergency. 
  • Call SelectCare Worldwide at: 1-888-551-9798 (toll free 7days a week/24 hours a day). A representative is available to answer any policy questions you may have. When calling, please identify yourself using the AVI-International policy number which is 640.642.
  • Visit www.avi-international.info. This website provides an insurance coverage summary, a complete explanation of benefits, a U.S. medical provider search, downloadable claim form, an informative Frequently Asked Questions section and other information. A policy number is required in order to access the website. The AVI-International policy number is 640.642.

Locating a Medical Provider in the United States

AVI-International/SelectCare Worldwide recommends that you use their online Provider Search to locate a medical provider in your area. You may access the Provider Search via their website at www.avi-international.info. 

If you are unable to find a medical provider in your area using the Provider Search, please contact SelectCare Worldwide directly 24 hours a day / 7 days a week at 1-888-551-9798. They will assist you in finding a provider in your area.

Emergency Care

Whenever you require emergency medical or dental care, you are strongly encouraged to contact SelectCare Worldwide for assistance. Representatives are available toll free 24 hours a day / 7 Days a week at 1-888-551-9798.

Emergency room visits that do not result in admittance to a medical facility or are not necessary in order to treat an acute illness or accident will result in a non-emergency co-pay deductible payment of $250 that the au pair will have to pay.

Return Home

In the event an au pair needs to return home due an immediate family member life-threatening emergency or death, au pairs must receive prior agreement from SelectCare Worldwide. Representatives are available toll free 24 hours / 7 Days a week at 1-888-551-9798. Failure to contact SelectCare Worldwide prior to emergency travel may result in a denial of reimbursement consideration. Host parents should never pay for an au pair's return emergency travel on behalf of the au pair.

Au Pairs from the STS Organization

Au Pair Care does not facilitate insurance for au pairs from the STS Organization. Insurance is provided by the STS Organization through Gouda Assistance.  For any policy questions or concerns please contact Gouda Assistance or your STS partner office.
