Baby New Year Resolutions

As we approach another New Year’s Eve most of us turn our thoughts to what we can do differently next year as we write resolutions like losing weight, working harder (or less!), or giving up bad habits. This year, however, I am going to do something different and write my resolutions for all those things I meant to do more of with my baby this year, and plan to focus on in 2012.
This is my personal list but maybe there are some ideas in here which can help you create your own list.
- Something I regretted not doing more with my son as a baby, and which I vowed to do more this time around is not to just plonk baby in a chair or on her playmat but also to ‘wear my baby’ more often. To that end I got a baby sling (in my case a moby wrap but still have had issues wearing it). While we’re at it, I also wanted to have more ‘skin to skin’ time with baby, so often touted as an important bonding tool these days.
- Attend more ‘mommy and me’ and similar socializing groups to mix with new moms and their babies.
- As a breastfeeding mom, concentrate on eating even healthier - fruit, veggies, foods high in protein, and lots more water.
- When my baby shortly starts solids in the New Year, I would like to make my own organic baby food.
- Working for a childcare company, and with no childcare of my own, I often describe myself as being like ‘the cobbler whose kids don’t have any shoes!’. So yes, I really must get that childcare sorted in 2012, so that…
- My husband and I can go out on those regular date nights which seem to have fallen by the wayside.
- Take more pictures and video of baby and, more importantly, spend the time to actually print pictures off the computer and put them in albums for future posterity.
- Complete the baby memory book, which is now getting so old I may struggle to remember when those landmarks like ‘first smile’ actually happened.
I would love to hear anyone else’s parenting New Year’s resolutions in the comments below.
Happy New Year to all. Here’s to a wondrous 2012 with your baby!
