About Us

AuPairCare is an au pair agency providing live-in childcare to American host families. We are designated by the U.S. Department of State and have made over 40,000 successful au pair placements across the U.S. We want to help current host families and parents who are researching this childcare option navigate the au pair/host family relationship successfully. Meet some of our host parents, Area Directors, and contributing writers who want to share their knowledge with you!

Former Au Pair & Area Director Claire Turner
Contributing Writer
Claire Turner is an AuPairCare Area Director, former au pair, yoga instructor, and Mum. She originates from England but has made Los Angeles her home for the past 9 years. Claire, her husband Mark, son Leo, daughter Maisie, and dog Remy love to experience all that a big city and its surroundings have to offer. Erika’s passion for cultural exchange began when her family hosted an exchange student from Finland. Erika also spent a semester in college studying English Literature in London through Syracuse University. She enjoys introducing others to the benefits of cultural exchange through her work. Erika is an avid reader and tennis player, and loves spending time with her husband Jason and three children, ages 6, 4, and 8 months. Erika Clark has been an Area Director with AuPairCare for 3 years, serving families and au pairs in Central New York.
Working Mom Julie Colwell
Guest Contributing Writer
Julie and her husband, Tracy, have three children (Skyler, Liam, and Hadley), but they regularly host people from other countries who need a place to stay or just want to learn English. Julie works as a freelance writer and marketing communications consultant. Her passion for international travel and meeting people from around the world began during a semester at Oxford in college and continued through grad school in the UK where she was welcomed into the homes of her European friends. Stateside, Julie enjoys strong coffee, good books, running, tennis, baking, and persuading people from other countries to tutor her in their native languages.
Area Director Darcy Martin
Contributing Writer
Darcy has a diverse background from living all over the United States and traveling extensively. She has lived in Texas, Florida, New York, California, and currently resides in Virginia--talk about covering the US from coast to coast. Living in these varied areas of the United States has given her a perspective of what American families need in childcare. In raising her two daughters, Darcy travels as much as possible to share her love of other cultures with her children. An appreciation for bringing other cultures into American households drew Darcy to AuPairCare. Being an Area Director is the most rewarding experience for Darcy, who says, "Every time a Host Family thanks me for making their lives easier while enhancing their children's lives, I am reminded of how wonderful it is to choose an au pair for childcare."

Nancy has been a working mother for fifteen years and is the author of Oh My, Au Pair! A Complete Guide to Hiring and Hosting an Au Pair. Through her book, Nancy seeks to inform and guide families considering the au pair program. If families decide that the au pair program is right for them, Nancy helps them to be great host families and make their cultural exchange experience the best it can be.
