August 1st in Seattle

Tomorrow is August 1st and is historically the driest day of the year in Seattle. Our forecast for tomorrow is…rain!

When it’s raining, we don’t go to the park as much. It’s really not my favorite thing to do in the rain.

This is what we’ve been up to lately instead:

Recently, Riley used wax paper framed by construction paper and glued tinsel and shapes of colored tissue paper across the wax paper to make a stained glass window.

He painted an empty, washed out 8 oz can and glued crumpled tissue to the side. He made a pipe cleaner and tissue paper flower to go inside his “tin can vase.”

The kids used wood sewing spools and beads to make necklaces. This can also be done with thick macaroni noodles and shells.

One of my old favorites is the painted half egg carton caterpillars.

I recently traced both my children’s feet on colored paper and used their feet to make butterfly wings on a card! One of my favorite things to do is help the kids make Thank You notes or cards for friends.

Some art supplies, a few household items, and a lot of creativity can turn a cloudy day into a lot of fun!

I’d love to see responses on what you’ve done with your host children lately!

On the sunny days I use to take my kids to the Peter Kirk Pool, is a public pool in Kirkland. They love to go there! Also, on July, they were doing outside story time.
I took them to the Zoo. We had so much fun!
We are doing lots of sports activities.
When the day is rainy we paint, go to chuck n cheese’s, cook something together and play games.
    :)
