Craft ideas for au pairs to make with children for Father’s Day or any day!

Father’s Day is this Sunday, June 15th.  Here are some wonderful and easy gift ideas that you can help your children make for their dads.  Post your own ideas and let me know which ones you try!

Hand prints

Materials Needed:

3 Cups Flour, 1 1/2 Cups Salt, 1 1/2 Cups Water

Make a dough using the ingredients above. Roll the dough out into circles and have the child press their hand in it. Make sure the dough is still thick were their hand print is. Using a toothpick add the child’s name and the year. Bake the hand print at 375 for 10-15 minutes. They are wonderful keepsakes!!!

Favorite Pictures on Magnets

Purchase some magnetic 4×6 picture frames (they cost approximately $1 for each frame) at a local craft store and let the children help stick on their favorite photos.  Have the children color, paint or use stickers to decorate a large piece of construction paper to use to wrap the frames.< BR>Hand Crafted Frames

Take a cute picture of each child, especially outside where it is nice and sunny (they can be holding an “I Love You” sign). Purchase a wooden frame at a local craft store (about $1 each)  Have the children color them, glue on colored stones or stickers and wrap with hand-made wrapping paper (see above).

Homemade Barbecue Dry Rub

Kids love to cook and dad’s love to barbecue.  Most families have these ingredients already, but if not go to the local grocery store to purchase what’s missing.  Dry Rub Seasonings- Mix the following seasonings together 1 Cup Chili Powder, 1 Tablespoon Garlic Powder, 1 teaspoon Onion Powder,  1/2 teaspoon Cumin, 1 1/2 Teaspoons Salt, 2 Teaspoons Seasoned Salt, and store in an airtight container and wrap with the following note attached:  Homemade Barbecue Dry Rub - Rub onto ribs and wrap with plastic wrap and place in refrigerator for 4 to 6 hours before cooking.

Father’s Day Time Capsule

Decorate the outside of a coffee tin with a picture of the child. Write “A Time Capsule for Father’s Day 2008″ and frame with child’s artwork. Inside the “Time Capsule” put the following items. The child’s hand print, the child’s foot print, an “All About Me” sheet so the father can remember special things about his child at this age (what he/she likes to do, what their favorite color, game, song, etc., is, how tall they are, how much they weigh), a picture of the family, an “All About My Daddy” sheet, art work done by the child, and anything else you can think of.

Decorate Cookies

On Father’s Day last year, the children in my class decorated large-sized cookies with frosting, M&Ms, and other cookie decorations. Kids love decorating and eating the artwork as they work.  You can purchase ready-made cookie dough and frosting at the groce ry sto re.

Candy

Decorate a baby food jar with tissue paper and watered down glue or an empty toilet or paper towel roll and fill with Hershey kisses and hugs, or dad’s favorite candies, and wrap it.

Have Fun!
