The Au Pair Academy

Au Pair Academy is a specialized three day training course that you will attend before you meet your host family. This training program was designed specifically for au pairs to introduce you to life in the United States and provide you with important information and hands-on training to prepare you for a successful stay with your family.

The Au Pair Academy takes place in New Jersey at a stylish hotel, just a few miles away from New York City. Our Au Pair Academy staff will provide you with a warm welcome and will coordinate all of your transportation, rooming, training logistics and some meals during your Academy stay.  You’ll meet other au pairs from around the world and participate together in this important training program.

During the Au Pair Academy, you will participate in hands-on and interactive training sessions covering the following topics:

• Roles & responsibilities of an Au Pair Care au pair
• Stages of child development (infant to young teen)
• Keeping children safe at every age
• CPR & First Aid training utilizing the American Heart Association course curriculum
• Information on bathing & feeding American children
• Strategies for caring for more than one child at a time
• Games & activities for stimulating child development
• American culture & the typical American household
• Creating a positive working relationship with host parents
• Driving while in the United States
• General household safety

Au pairs participating in Au Pair Care’s Infant Specialized program will attend a separate and longer training program focused on infant caregiving. If you love caring for babies, this is an amazing program that will teach you new infant care skills!

In addition to the training sessions, you’ll have an opportunity to relax and unwind at the hotel. In this safe and comfortable environment, you’ll meet other Au Pair Care au pairs and make new friendships. You’ll also have an opportunity travel into New York City for an evening of sightseeing on our optional New York City tour.

Your time at the Au Pair Academy is paid for by Au Pair Care, although you’ll want to bring spending money for your own personal expenses, sightseeing and dinners in the evening.

Au Pair Care recognizes that most au pairs have never traveled to the United States before.  You can count on our team of caring Au Pair Academy staff to give you a warm welcome and assist you with anything you may need during the training program. You’ll receive all of the information you need to make your Au Pair Academy experience a success before you depart from your home country.
