Study While in the United States

During your time in the United States, you’ll have an opportunity to take educational courses at a post-secondary school. Going to school is a great way to meet new people and learn new topics.  As one of the benefits for au pairs, your host family will provide you with up to $500 towards completing the educational component of the program.

The educational component is an important part of the Au Pair Care program, and the typical schedule leaves time for au pairs to study and take classes at local schools. The Department of State requires that every au pair complete not less than six semester hours (or their equivalent) of academic credit in formal educational settings at accredited U.S. post-secondary institutions. Your host family will assist you in enrolling and attending classes during your program.

Once you match with a host family, you’ll be able to view the educational opportunities in your host community in Au Pair Room, Au Pair Care’s online resource center for au pairs. Your local Area Director will also meet with you shortly after your arrival to help you plan where and when to take your courses.

English as a Second Language, Business English, American History, Art History are just a few of the courses you can take while in the United States!  Be sure to refer to the Au Pair Care Au Pair Handbook for complete information about Au Pair Care’s educational requirements.
